FabLab Junior: for parents
As little as possible. Here is what stays on the device, what goes to our servers and those of our providers, and how to erase it all. Updated October 30, 2026.
What we never ask for
The child has no account. We never ask for an email, a date of birth or a photo. At the start of each workshop, the child only types a first name, on the device.
The app shows no ads and loads no audience measurement tools. No price is ever shown to the child: purchases happen in the adult area, protected by a PIN.
What stays on the device
The first name, drawings and creations, the print queue and the settings stay in the device’s browser. The “🔒 Tout effacer” button (adult area, Réglages) erases them, for example between two groups.
Removing the background of a photo is also done on the device.
What is sent, and when
Fairy magic: when the child calls the fairy, the image of the drawing (or the words typed) goes to an artificial intelligence service that sends back the result. The first name is never sent.
Photos: some workshops (key ring, stickers) offer to transform a photo with the fairy. A photo is only sent if UbMaker has enabled this option for the workshop and the child answers yes to the question on screen, every time. An adult can block it on the device: adult area, Réglages, “Interdire l’envoi de photos à l’IA sur cet appareil”.
Group sessions (Classroom and Facilitator plans): if the facilitator links the devices to their console, the child’s nickname, thumbnails of their creations and their Bilan Maker answers are sent to the console. The facilitator can delete the session and all its data.
The mini-business survey: respondents answer Yes, Maybe or No, without a name. The survey closes after 45 days.
Anonymous technical signals (errors, response times): only if an adult turns them on. Never a name, drawing or child’s text.
The adult’s account: name, email and password (never stored in plain text). Payment goes through Stripe; we do not receive the card number.
Where the data goes
Our servers and providers are located in the United States: Vercel (app hosting), Supabase (database), fal.ai, Anthropic and Meshy (artificial intelligence), Stripe (payment). Information may therefore be communicated outside Quebec. Each provider only receives what it needs to provide its service.
The app also loads technical files (libraries, fonts) from public content delivery networks. As with any website, these networks see the device’s IP address.
How long
On the device: until “Tout effacer” or until you clear the browser’s data.
Group sessions: until the facilitator deletes the session.
Images sent to the fairy: AI providers receive them long enough to produce the result; their own retention rules apply.
The adult’s account: until you ask for it to be deleted.
Your rights
You can request access to information about you or your child, its correction or deletion, or withdraw your consent (for example to sending photos). We reply within 30 days.

Our advice
Change the starting PIN (2468) the first time you open the app. If you do not want photos to be sent, tick “Interdire l’envoi de photos à l’IA sur cet appareil”. Use “Tout effacer” when the device goes to another child.
