UbFixit Make
Reverse engineering is not a scan and a print. It is a chain of steps, each of which can send the part back a step.

The reverse-engineering pipeline
Seven stages. A part only moves forward when the previous stage holds.
01
A donor sample arrives, broken or intact. Missing geometry is reconstructed from the mating surfaces.
02
The sample is scanned and referenced against measured dimensions.
03
A parametric master is rebuilt — not a mesh. Features, radii and tolerances are explicit.
04
Load paths, heat exposure and safety classification are reviewed. Restricted parts stop here.
05
The first physical revision is produced in the candidate material and process.
06
The prototype is installed on the real product. This is the step that earns UbFixit Verified.
07
The revision is released, the SKU is published, and the part stays orderable.
The process is chosen per part, from what the component has to do — never from what happens to be in the shop.
Fast, low cost, visible layers. Good for brackets, covers and low-load geometry.
Strong isotropic nylon, no support marks. The default for functional clips and latches.
Fine detail and consistent walls at volume. Used when a rescued part becomes popular.
High resolution for small precise features. Limited heat and UV tolerance.
Machined metal or plastic for stiffness, threads and tight tolerances.
For parts ordered often enough to justify a tool. Lowest per-part cost, longest setup.
Qualitative levels, recorded per part revision.
| Material | Temperature | UV | Impact | Flexibility |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| PA12 Nylon | up to 120 °C | Medium | High | Medium |
| ASA | up to 95 °C | High | Medium | Low |
| PETG | up to 70 °C | Medium | Medium | Low |

THIS TINY PART SAVED A PRODUCT.
Discontinued parts are reverse-engineered from a donor sample, then published for everyone.
A rescued part does not exist only as an object. It exists as a record, which is what makes it orderable again in five years.
Proprietary CAD is never public by default. What is published is the compatibility and installation information a repair needs; the geometry stays under our control unless a rights holder agrees otherwise.

Springs, fasteners and standard hardware are sourced, not reinvented.

These levels are indicative and are validated per part. The material of a specific part is shown on its own page, tied to its revision.
